Sudoku Buddy

Your puzzle stays on your phone.

Sudoku Buddy is published by Freevia. This policy explains what the app stores locally, how camera processing works and what happens if you choose to share diagnostics.

Last updated 8 September 2026

The short version

Freevia does not collect or receive personal data from Sudoku Buddy. The app has no account, ads, analytics or internet permission. Camera processing and puzzle history stay on your device. A photograph leaves the app only when you deliberately share it with another app.

What stays on your device

Sudoku Buddy stores the following information in app-specific storage on your phone:

WhatWhereWhy
Photographs of puzzles you scanThe app's private files directorySo a puzzle can be reopened from the history
The digits read from each puzzle, and your correctionsThe app's private files directorySo your progress survives closing the app
The last few photographs the app refused to readThe app's external files directorySo you can look at what went wrong, or send it to the developer
Your settingsThe app's private preferencesSo they persist

Accepted puzzles and progress are stored in the app's private files. Refused photographs are stored in the app's external files area so Android can make a selected image available to the share sheet. Other apps do not receive access unless you start sharing.

You can delete accepted and refused scans from the app's history. When the app keeps more than six refused photographs, it automatically removes the oldest.

No network connection

Sudoku Buddy does not request Android's INTERNET permission and cannot send data to Freevia or any other server. It contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting service and does not access an advertising identifier.

Sharing is your choice

When you choose Share or Send diagnostics, Sudoku Buddy opens Android's share sheet. You select the receiving app and recipient. The selected app receives temporary read access only to the file or files you chose.

After another app receives a file, that app's privacy policy and data practices apply. Freevia receives a file only if you choose Freevia as its recipient and send it.

Camera processing

Camera frames are analyzed on the phone to find and read a Sudoku grid. Preview frames are not uploaded or recorded as video. The app stores a puzzle photograph when it accepts a scan and may retain an unsuccessful scan as a diagnostic image, as described above.

Deleting your data

Delete individual scans from the app's history. Uninstalling Sudoku Buddy removes its app-specific files and settings. Android backup is disabled for the app, so this information is not copied to Google's device-backup service.

Children

Sudoku Buddy is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. Freevia does not collect personal data from users of any age through the app.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change, Freevia will update this page and the date above. The policy's source and revision history are also available in the public GitHub repository.
