A backgammon tutor by Freevia

Play the position.
Learn the reason.

Backgammon Buddy helps you see the choices behind a move. Compare engine-ranked plays, understand what changes on the board, then turn your own mistakes into focused practice.

A better way to improve

From a stronger move to stronger understanding.

The engine can rank a position. Backgammon Buddy makes that analysis useful while you play and after the game ends.

01

See the alternatives

Preview ranked checker plays before choosing. Compare candidate moves on the board, with match-aware context where available.

02

Understand the trade-off

Explanations connect engine estimates to observable changes—hits, blots, racing shape and other features of the actual position. Checker and cube advice follow match context.

03

Keep what you learn

Review completed games, save decisions you missed and retry those positions later. Learning progress and practice history stay on your device.

Ways to play

Play freely. Learn at the right moment.

Coaching belongs where it helps you learn—and stays out of live peer matches.

On your device

Play and explore

Play against the computer or share a screen for hot-seat backgammon. Use the tutor to preview moves, read grounded explanations and examine your decisions.

  • Local engine and tutor analysis
  • Post-game review and saved-mistake drills
  • Practice progress stored locally
With other people

Compete first. Review afterward.

Nearby play uses your local network; optional online play uses Firebase. Live peer matches are unassisted, with review and practice available afterward.

  • Local-network and optional online matches
  • No live tutor assistance in peer play
  • Review saved games after the match
About physical-board Buddy Mode: camera-assisted board tracking is still being tested. Dice are entered manually; reliable camera dice recognition is not a published capability.
Your choices matter

Useful analysis, clear data boundaries.

Local games and practice stay on your device. Optional usage and crash diagnostics are off by default. Online matches need Firebase to connect players; camera work for Buddy Mode is processed locally.
